Cars in the Park @ Zwartkops - August 2013

Cars in the park, once again well attended by the MX5 club, 14 scheduled cars and 4 visitors, 2 of whom joined on the day. So 18 cars on the day, was pretty good. Welcome to Rui who joined us on a run from New Road and Nicci who met us at Zwartkops. Hope you have many pleasant and safe k`s with the MX5 club. Thanks to our chairman Rod who arrived with our brand new club gazebo, along with our banners flying high, certainly made us one of the more organised car clubs at the show.

For the first time in a few years Zwartkops had a theme to the day based on the 50th anniversary of James Bond. Unfortunately most car clubs did not participate in the theme. We had number plates with Bond movies as the theme, as well as ID`s which read MX5 in place of MI5. Thanks also to Frans and Joe who really looked the part, dressed for the occasion. Number of surveys took place on the day, as to how the Cars in the Park could improve, and I hope those issues will be addressed by next year. Two major points were lack of ablutions, particularly for females, and difficulty in exiting the grounds.

Generally a good day was had by all, and a big thank you to the members for really sprucing their cars up and arriving at the show, really looked very good.

The Amazing Adventure - Run

There were 10 cars which met at Weisenhoff ,Linksfield ,an old traditional meeting point for MX5`ers over the years.Game packs were handed out, clues given and all the intrepid adventurers set off , in hopefully the right direction. We all eventually arrived at the first destination:

“Arts on Main” , a re-vamped section of Johannesburg on the lower East-Side which hosts” Food on Main” every Sunday with a multitude of multinational eatery`s , and a local urban brewery. A real lekker place to visit while in Joburg . We stopped off for a walkabout, snack and a pint and collected clues for our next destination, all the while collecting mystery points which were added to our game cards, and set off for:

“James Hall Museum of Transport”, our next destination was found quite miraculously from somewhat cryptic clues. A real stroll down memory lane was in the offing, and a must to visit by anyone who has an interest in motoring history. So more clues were gained and mystery points added. By this time thirst and hunger had set in, so after more cryptic clues, we managed to head to our final destination for lunch:

“Bennigans Restaurant” , a New Orleans/Irish style restaurant in Bedfordview. All clues and bonus points were counted up ,and Bingo Cards were given according to the number of points acquired, giving more chances, in the ensuing Bingo game, called in the old traditional way, by yours truly. Overall winners, were new members, Kerry and Hillary, well done. Runners up Debs and Wendy, Rijkent and Heli. So after a great lunch, we finished up and navigated our way home without a  clue..
