MX5 - YEAR END FUNCTION - COCO BONGO
MX5 - AGM - HELD AT NASREC
AGM at
JIMS on the Mazda stand
We were
invited by Mazda South Africa to hold our AGM on their stand at the Johannesburg
International Motor Show. The show itself was world class, and the Mazda stand
was no exception! All the models were displayed in red; the only one in Pearl
white was the MX5! The new committee was elected as follows:
Chairman: Rodney Steele –re-elected
Vice Chairman: Rijkent Mulder- re-elected
Treasurer: Erika van der Velde – re-elected
Secretary: Carin Keulder – new appointment
Welcome
Carin, may your stay with MX5`ers be a long and enjoyable one.
After the
days business was complete, we went around the show to check out all the other
stands.
WEEKEND AWAY to PARYS
Parys
weekend away September.
Arrived in
Parys in a few small convoys, and most headed straight to Jakkelberry, which
was to be our digs for the weekend. We were all housed in one house, with
en-suite rooms and sharing a common lounge, dining room and kitchen. Friday
night was the traditional braai, and although the weather turned rather cold,
we still managed a pretty good evening.
Saturday
morning saw everyone scurrying around the shops in Parys buying warm clothing
to fend off the unseasonal cold weather. The afternoon spent by most doing some
rambling around the numerous craft and souvenir shops, for which Parys is
renowned. Met up later for the famous PINK DRINKS, the recipe for which is the
most guarded secret of Parys. Back to Jakkelberry to freshen up and then onto
one of the best eatery`s in Parys, Hoi Polloi which is situated on the high
street. The restaurant provided us with blankets to warm up due to the fact we
had booked on the balcony. The food and the service were excellent, which more
than compensated for the inclement weather.
Sunday we
all went for a lovely breakfast, and then gradually started heading home after
a bit more browsing around town. All in all, a good weekend was had by
everyone.

Cars in the Park @ Zwartkops - August 2013
Cars in the park, once again well attended by the MX5 club, 14
scheduled cars and 4 visitors, 2 of whom joined on the day. So 18 cars on the
day, was pretty good. Welcome to Rui who joined us on a run from New Road and
Nicci who met us at Zwartkops. Hope you have many pleasant and safe k`s with
the MX5 club. Thanks to our chairman Rod who arrived with our brand new club
gazebo, along with our banners flying high, certainly made us one of the more
organised car clubs at the show.
For the first time in a few years Zwartkops had a
theme to the day based on the 50th anniversary of James Bond.
Unfortunately most car clubs did not participate in the theme. We had number
plates with Bond movies as the theme, as well as ID`s which read MX5 in place
of MI5. Thanks also to Frans and Joe who really looked the part, dressed for
the occasion. Number of surveys took place on the day, as to how the Cars in
the Park could improve, and I hope those issues will be addressed by next year.
Two major points were lack of ablutions, particularly for females, and
difficulty in exiting the grounds.
Generally a good day was had by all, and a big thank you to
the members for really sprucing their cars up and arriving at the show, really
looked very good.

The Amazing Adventure - Run
There were 10 cars which met at Weisenhoff ,Linksfield ,an
old traditional meeting point for MX5`ers over the years.Game packs were handed
out, clues given and all the intrepid adventurers set off , in hopefully the
right direction. We all eventually arrived at the first destination:
“Arts on Main” , a re-vamped section of Johannesburg on the
lower East-Side which hosts” Food on Main” every Sunday with a multitude of multinational
eatery`s , and a local urban brewery. A real lekker place to visit while in
Joburg . We stopped off for a walkabout, snack and a pint and collected clues
for our next destination, all the while collecting mystery points which were
added to our game cards, and set off for:
“James Hall Museum of Transport”, our next destination was
found quite miraculously from somewhat cryptic clues. A real stroll down memory
lane was in the offing, and a must to visit by anyone who has an interest in
motoring history. So more clues were gained and mystery points added. By this
time thirst and hunger had set in, so after more cryptic clues, we managed to
head to our final destination for lunch:
“Bennigans Restaurant” , a New Orleans/Irish style
restaurant in Bedfordview. All clues and bonus points were counted up ,and
Bingo Cards were given according to the number of points acquired, giving more
chances, in the ensuing Bingo game, called in the old traditional way, by yours
truly. Overall winners, were new members, Kerry and Hillary, well done. Runners
up Debs and Wendy, Rijkent and Heli. So after a great lunch, we finished up and
navigated our way home without a clue..
