The Rabbit Hole - February 2016

The Rabbit Hole Hotel & Restuarant

We met at the Sasol Garage, off Hendrik Potgieter Road. An ideal meeting place, as there is ample parking available. We left for the venue with Stuart leading the convoy, driving the scenic route through this area, quite awesome!
Thank you Stuart for this interesting drive, really enjoyable.

Thanks so much to Heli and Rijkent for the venue idea, The Rabbit Hole Hotel & Restaurant, with its unusual name and its equally unusual decor, was a different venture.
Most of us had never heard of the place at all, but we have discovered another hidden gem.
With an arty type mixed Bohemian, rustic decor, it was really a very laid back venue.
The meals excellent, a good variety and the service good and we lingered on totally unrushed. The time just passed away as we finished our meals and slowly departed on our separate ways.

Value for money without a shadow of doubt, would certainly recommend to others.

Really need to share that joke !

Patiently waiting !

Who is the rabbit in front of us chasing ?

Gosh, look at these options, really good !

That is a map of Ireland, not much use in Krugersdorp!

Timeless roadster reveal- November 2015

Timeless roadster Reveal
African Pride Irene Country Hotel was the venue for this reveal. Set in the idyllic lawns of the hotel, it was the ideal setting for the unveiling of this very special car. The MX5 Owners club also had on display all MX5~s, since the earliest MK1 all the way to the MK3.5.
We met at Irene Mall for a short run to the Hotel, a really impressive sight of 29 cars riding through this quaint little town. The convoy made it through ok, although we were somewhat disjointed by traffic lights four way stops. We were accompanied by Bheki and Nosipho, from Mazda, who took videos and many tweets and re-tweets, thanks for your assistance, much appreciated.
We all had some welcome drinks before settling in at our tables in preparation for the reveal. Thanks to Melane Bezuidenout and her team for organising this spectacular event. The layout of the marquee with 3 vehicles under cover was most intriguing , due to one of them being somewhat higher than a MX5, so there was an air of anticipation as we waited for the reveal.
The floor was handed over to Dave Hughes for his welcome speech before the unveiling. Then the moment we were all waiting for, the reveal! Really absolutely worth the wait. This is without doubt the best looking roadster on the market today!  Still the best bang for buck roadster today! The surprise package was the CX3, a very good looking MPV and must be up there as one of the leaders in this niche market. Doreen Mashinini and the crew from Mazda then expounded on the features of these magnificent cars.
A buffet lunch was the served, and in keeping in line with the excellence of the day, the meal was excellent and really enjoyed by all. Our thanks go out to Dave and his team, for treating us to this magnificent day out.

Rietvlei Dam Technical Day- October 2015

Rietvlei nature reserve situated 40 km's from Johannesburg and 20 Km's from Pretoria, is a hidden gem of a venue so very close to two of SA's major cities. The nature reserve is ideal for MX5's as most of the roads meandering through the reserve are tarred and well maintained.

We camped out for our Braai on the North end of the reserve, close to the picturesque dam with it's     Sailing and fishing facilities well catered for. No power boats so really a tranquil and peaceful facility. The scorching heat with temperatures in excess of 30 degrees, had us huddling under the Gazebo's seeking the comfort of shade. Really very hot and without the light breeze would have been unbearable.

After lunch some took a ride through the reserve, spotting numerous buck, zebra and rhino.
We were fortunate enough to see two rhino facing each other off! Really exciting stuff, but also scary if you compare the size of a MX5 to that of rhino! Luckily they gradually moved off not bothering with us too much.

Thanks go out to Herman,Eben,Annetjie and Carin for organizing the foodstuffs, braai and the much needed Gazebo's. Really well done guys, a lot of hard work went into this, so really very well done.

Annual Dinner - The Meat Co - September 2015

We moved the annual dinner from December to September, due to members being away during December. Probably a good move, as this outing was well attended.

Meat Co. Melrose Arch as always delivers a high standard of service coupled with good quality food.
This outing was unique , as to having Christmas in September!

So after a few bottles of wine and lager, we settled in for an enjoyable evening, with the ever present staff in close attendance.

Numerous plans and runs were planned for the new year, so MX5'ers look ahead to some different and interesting events for 2016.
